Marinette, Wisconsin, and Menominee, Michigan, are sometimes described as “twin cities” of the Marinette River.

Marinette, the larger of the two cities, with an estimated population of 10,608, is the principal city of the Marinette, Wisconsin–Michigan Micropolitan Statistical Area. The other Wisconsin communities in the area include: Amberg and the town of Amberg, the towns of Beaver, Beecher, Dunbar, Goodman, Grover, Lake, Middle Inlet, Niagara, Pembine, Peshtigo, Porterfield, Pound, Silver Cliff, Stephenson, Wagner and Wausaukee as well as the cities of Coleman, Crivitz, Niagara, Peshtigo, Pound, Powers and Wausaukee.

The name Marinette means “of the sea,” but Marinette, Wisconsin, was named for Marinette Chevalier (1793-1865), who established a trading post on the Menominee River. She became known as “Queen Marinette.”

Here are some fun things to look forward to in Marinette:

  • The Logging & Heritage Festival celebrates the town’s lumbering history.
  • The Tri-City Bike trails cover Peshtigo, Marinette and Menominee.
  • Marinette also has a city campground, for when you want to get away from your home without traveling far.
  • Held on the first Saturday of December each year, Christmas in Marinette is a day of fun for the whole family.

In 2003, the film The Godfather of Green Bay was shot in Marinette and Menominee.

When you’re planning a move, it pays to have someone in your corner you can trust. Guindon Moving & Storage has been helping people move to Marinette for more than 80 years. We’re trusted, professional movers who care about your family and your wellbeing.

For a smooth transition into your next home, we offer the following tips:

  1. Four to eight weeks before you move, contact Guindon Moving & Storage to schedule a convenient time for a free estimate. Experts advise that you get estimates in writing from three qualified movers before deciding on the best one for your move.
  2. At this time, it’s a good idea to start making a list of all the people you’ll need to inform of your move. Financial institutions, schools and insurance agents are high on the list.
  3. About three weeks before your move, you’ll want to start packing. We sell boxes for all your moving needs as well as rent out reusable moving totes.
  4. Packing often starts with decluttering – and that’s a huge task in and of itself. For tips on how to declutter and let go of your items you don’t want to move with you, read our blog, “17 Decluttering Steps You Can Take This Weekend.”
  5. On moving day, arrange to have a babysitter for children, and ideally your pets, too. One adult from your household will need to be available to work with our moving crew.
  6. Once the moving van is loaded, do a final walk through to make sure all items are packed – including out of the closets, cabinets, drawers, basement, attic and outbuildings.

Did you know...?

What is the Difference Between Local and Long-Distance Moving?

Many people hear the terms “Local Movers” and “Long-Distance Movers” and assume that these have to do purely with how far the move is. Local moves are ones that take place within the borders of a state while long-distance moves are ones where you cross the border.

There’s significant importance for this distinction because there are laws and regulations in place for moving across state lines, and these vary from state to state. Be sure to ask your movers whether they can take you across state lines if necessary. The best way to be sure is to search for a moving company that is an agent of a national van line.
